How to share a podcast on your Instagram story

Spotify has a Stories button, and any podcast link can go in a link sticker. Steps for each, what viewers get when they tap, and how to point them at one moment.

  • Spotify's share menu has an Instagram Stories option. It posts the episode's cover art with a Play on Spotify link.
  • Any other app's episode link can go in a story with Instagram's Link sticker, which every account has had since October 2021.
  • Both send viewers to the whole episode. To point them at one moment, put a clip link in the sticker.
  • A story can't carry audio on its own. To have it play inside the story, you need a video, such as an Overcast clip.

Spotify: the Instagram Stories button

Spotify's mobile app, on iPhone and Android, can share a song or podcast straight to Instagram Stories.[1]

    Open the episode in the Spotify app.

    Tap Share.

    Choose Instagram Stories. Instagram opens with the cover art as a sticker.

    Add text or stickers if you like, and post.

Viewers see a Play on Spotify link at the top of your story, which opens the episode in Spotify.[1] It's the whole episode, from where Spotify starts it, and it needs the Spotify app.

Any app: a Link sticker

In October 2021 Instagram opened the Link sticker to every account, whatever its follower count or verification. Before that, only verified accounts and those with 10,000 or more followers had it.[2]

    Copy the episode's link. In Apple Podcasts, Share then Copy Link; in most other apps, Share then Copy.

    In Instagram, start a story and add a photo, such as a screenshot of the episode.

    Tap the sticker tool at the top and choose Link.

    Paste the link, and set the sticker's text to something like "Listen to this episode".

    Place the sticker and post.

Apple Podcasts' Copy Link gives a link that opens the show in Podcasts.[3] Since iOS 18 its share sheet can also start the link at a chosen time.[4]

Point viewers at one moment

Most people share a story about a podcast because of one thing someone said. A link to the episode makes viewers find it. A clip link plays just that part in a web browser, with no app or account.

    Paste the episode link into BitePods, or search the show by name.

    Drag the start and end to the moment, or type the times.

    Press Clip it and copy the link.

    Put that link in the story's Link sticker, with text like "The part about…".

If you want the audio in the story itself

A story is a photo or a video, so a link, a cover-art card or a clip link plays nothing until someone taps it. To have viewers hear the moment as they swipe past, post it as a video. Overcast can export clips of up to a minute from any public podcast as square, portrait or landscape video.[5] Keep it short, and still add the Link sticker so people can hear the rest.

How do I share a podcast to my Instagram story from Spotify?

In the Spotify app, open the episode, tap Share and choose Instagram Stories. Instagram opens with the cover art, and viewers get a Play on Spotify link.

Make a clip link with a start and an end in BitePods and put it in a Link sticker. To have the sound play in the story itself, post a short video clip instead.
